My favourite colour is purple. I like most colours, except that I'm not too fond of yellow. I'm a teacher, a student, a wife and a step-mom to four young adult-ish kids. My favourite room is my craft room. I like to play with photography, paper, scrapbooking, book and card making. Thanks for checking out my blog!

One Little Word

This year I am participating in a project called One Little Word.
Discipline is the word I've come to.
But not as a negative, begrudging, nagging in my head thing.
Not as a New Year's resolution thing.
I'd like the opportunity to reflect on the positive side of it.
To document the benefits of it.
To unpack some of the blocks I've encountered in the past.
To move it from a goal/dream/even regret to the daily living of it.
It's my word of the year. I'm a little scared!

Scrap Collage cards

As my summer officially draws to a close, I have been trying to squeeze in a few crafty projects, because I love creating as a way to relax before the busyness of the fall.  I made these cards this week.

Step 1. I collected various scraps and layered them onto a 12 X 12 card stock. I used glue stick and also some gel medium with a brush. I tore some, cut some, used some papers with circles punched out, and also layered some different sized circles on top. Scraps from the place that has die cut machines are very fun to use. Glue everything down really well, and let dry overnight. Best to flatten between wax paper and some heavy books so it's flat.

Step 2. Trim 2 X 2 inch squares (or whatever size squares work for you). This is the fun, random part of this craft. You never know what you're going to get!

Step 3. Choose a few squares and cluster them onto a card. Add buttons, stickles, washi tape, or any other adornment that feels right. Glue them down on a card, and you may need to press them again for flatness.

Home made Calendar

I hate paying $30 or more for my purse sized calendars, so for a few years now I have been making my own. I even reuse the cardboard from year to year. It's a simple book binding wrap, and you can download free calendar templates or use ical. When I did buy the expensive plain ones, I also found that I only used the month at a glance page. So that's what I use in my home made one.

This year I covered it in old atlas paper. This atlas used to belong to my grandma, so sometimes I'll find her handwriting or underlining of cities and places she'd been to.

It's almost September, so I decided to spend some time this weekend making it.

the front cover

I printed the inside cover using identification info should I misplace it. Nice to be able to customize it!

I have a tab maker punch that I used to make tabs for each page. I punched it out of the same paper as the front cover.

I added some fun washi tape for the blank spots on each month.
